Room at the Inn Announced as Key Partner In Children’s Service Fund

St. Louis County Children’s Service Fund provides money to shelter children

Room at the Inn is one of the Key Partners of the St. Louis County Children’s Service Fund, and will receive more than $56,000 to provide temporary, emergency shelter to children over thenext 17 months.

The Fund was created by proceeds generated from a sales tax in St. Louis County – a tax approved by voters in the 2008 general election. Room at the Inn is one of 44 agencies to receive funding as Key Partners in finding solutions to help young people 19 and under.

Room at the Inn clients benefit from the Fund in a second way: Catholic Family Services received a grant to provide counselors to the area homeless shelters in order to address the psychological and emotional impact homelessness has on children.

We are delighted to be a partner with so many wonderful agencies working for the good of St. Louis County children. Thank you to the people of St. Louis County who voted in favor of this fund!

New Board Member Announced

Room at the Inn announced a new board member.

Ettrick Lucas joined the board of directors this summer. Mr. Lucas is a principal procurement agent for Boeing, where he served on the company’s Diversity Task Force. He earned a bachelors of science degree in business administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a master of arts in computer resource information management fromWebsterUniversity.

“I am elated at the opportunity to serve on the board at Room at theInn,” Mr. Lucas said. “Unlike shelters that only provide temporary boarding, this organization is different by providing comprehensive around-the-clock care for its clients in a caring and collaborative environment. Room at theInn’s partnership with various community agencies and congregations provide a network which helps women and children gain stability and independence.

“I believe that homelessness represents both social and moral issues that are often overlooked. As citizens of the richest nation on Earth, we have a social responsibility to reach out to those who are less fortunate. As a Christian, I have a moral responsibility to be servant to all.”
