Board members Mary Michael McCulla, CDP, Bob Miller and Ettrick Lucas visited Christ the King Catholic Church on May 22 to personally thank the University City parish for their five years of service to Room at the Inn as a night site.
Father Timothy Foley learned about the program through his previous assignment.
“I thought it would be a good fit for Christ the King,” said Father Timothy. “Caring for those in need is part of our Lord’s teaching.”
Ettrick presented parishioner Tom Malon with a certificate commemorating the anniversary. Tom and his wife, Kelly, have coordinated the program with the church since the beginning.
“I live a blessed life,” Tom said. “I truly believe that for those of us who much is given, much is expected.”
The presentation was made at the 10:00 a.m. service, during which Sister Mary Michael shared a personal story of her own experiences with Room.
“When I first joined the board of directors, I remember asking a client how she and her children felt about spending each night in a different church,” Sister Mary Michael recalled. “I’ll never forget her smile when she said, ‘it feels so wonderful to know so many people care enough to help.’”
Ettrick added his thanks. “I think it’s important that our volunteers recognize the difference they make in our clients’ lives. They may not always get the chance to hear about how thankful their guests are.”
We are thankful to Christ the King, and all our night sites, for their ministry and dedication to our clients.
