Employment

Room at the Inn is pleased to announce it has been chosen to receive a grant from St. Louis-Based Jewish Fund for Human Needs.

The award will benefit the shelter’s Employment Readiness Program, which seeks to empower our homeless clients with the tools, skills, confidence and knowledge needed to regain employment – a key step in their path out of homelessness.

“We are extremely grateful to the Jewish Fund for Human Needs for believing in our clients and their future,” said Room at the Inn Program Director Val Ferlis. “Through our Employment Readiness Program, our clients regain not only a path out of homeless and a sustainable income, but also a sense of confidence and self-worth.”

Room at the Inn provides emergency shelter and a stabilizing support system to women and families in need in St. Louis County, using a collaborative, interfaith effort of congregations and organizations throughout the St. Louis Region. Our program is bolstered by approximately 60 congregations of different faith traditions.

“The Jewish Fund for Human Needs (JFHN) works to fulfill the mitzvah of tzedakah (the obligation to do righteous acts) by awarding small grants to non-Jewish social services agencies helping those in need throughout the St. Louis region,” according to its website.

Room at the Inn was one of nine organizations selected by JFHN for the Spring 2015 cycle.

YOU can help our charity golf tournament

IMG_6952“FORE” It’s not a golf ball that’s coming at you really fast, it’s the Second Annual Charity Golf Outing Benefitting Room at the Inn!

Again this year, Room at Inn and the clients it serves will be the beneficiaries of a generous collaboration between Webster Groves Christian Church and Westborough Country Club. Together, they are presenting a charity golf outing for Room at the Inn to be held at Westborough Country Club on Monday, October 5, 2015.

The kickoff meeting for coordinating the event will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 9 in the Clubroom of Westborough. Light snacks will be provided.

We are seeking volunteers for a variety of opportunities that will help to make this year’s event even more successful than last year. Whether you have worked a golf tournament or not, if you like meeting new people and want to get involved with a great effort, and have fun doing so, this is for you.

Details of the event and the volunteers we need will be explained at the meeting, which should not last much more than an hour. Subsequent meetings will be held at the same time, either at the Room at the Inn site in Bridgeton or at Westborough Country Club.

Please RSVP by June 30 to Ana Schulz, by email: aschulz@lpp-room.org or by phone at 314-209-9181, extension 105.

We look forward to hearing from you and meeting up with you on July 9.

Welcome to our new Mondays e-newsletter

Monday, June 8, 2015

Dear friends and supporters of Room at the Inn,

In an effort to offer you the news, events, stories and updates about our shelter in the most efficient manner, we are excited to announce our redesigned Mondays at Room at the Inn e-newsletter!

The redesign comes as we seek ways to reach our audiences with a cleaner and clearer approach. Our new e-newsletter was set up so it can be more easily read on smartphones and tablet devices.

The job is not over, however. We would like you to give us any feedback on how we can better reach you with information that matters to you so we can continue to improve our communications strategy.

If you have ever volunteered, donated, or participated in anyway with our shelter, we invite you to share your stories with us.

Please contact Communications Specialist Carlos Restrepo at crestrepo@lpp-room.org with any feedback or story ideas.

Thank you for staying in touch with us and for allowing us to keep you up to date on how we strive to give our homeless clients a better future.

5 Reasons Why We Say Thank You

Thank You

They say you should “count your blessings.” We tried, but realized Room at the Inn is often showered with so many blessings, that they are hard to count.

We pulled the top reasons why we feel blessed and grateful for every day at Room at the Inn. However, we cannot quite encompass the amount of gratitude we feel toward all of you, so we will try the best we can to say thank you to:

Our staff: For their hard work and dedication to making the lives of our clients better every day. Our shelter’s mission and programs could not be carried out without all of your efforts.

Our donors and grantors: You have given us the financial resources that allow us to give our clients the best service we can offer. Your support is the backbone of our programs, and your generosity to see our mission continue is unmatchable.

Our Board of Directors: For steering this organization in all the right directions. Each step of the way in this long journey, you have believed in Room at the Inn and the power we have to serve and improve our community.

Our volunteers: From helping clients with resumes, feeding and clothing them, to offering them a smile and an attentive ear, you’ve care for our clients like one of your own. We are blessed to have the most compassionate and caring individuals giving of themselves to the service of others. You are our rock.

Our Night Sites: You are the cornerstone of our program. You’ve collectively and graciously opened the doors of your faith communities and your hearts for the less fortunate. You give us, and them, a reason to believe in the power of faith, unity and humanity.

Finally, to all and each of you reading this newsletter, whether you have volunteered, served or donated to Room at the Inn, we want to thank you for being part of this wonderful family which seeks to provide the homeless in our community a purpose and a future.

We could spend all day counting our blessings.

Thank you and have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving Day.
