Computers for children needed

Clients at computersIf you have stopped by Room at the Inn, you know we have a computer room with internet access for our residents’ use. The computers are primarily used for employment-related activities and to help residents search for housing.

We would like to have a couple of computers available for our younger clients so they can work on their homework and access educationally-based websites. The computers do not need be new and can be a desktop or laptop; however, we would like them to have the capability to connect to the internet.

Perhaps your company is upgrading your equipment or you may be purchasing a new computer and would like to donate an older household PC that our children can use.

Depending on the response to this request, we may even be able to give a few of these gently used computers to families that are moving into housing. If you or your company might be able to help Room at the Inn with a computer donation, please contact Chris Hotard at: chotard@roomstl.org or by telephone at: 314-209-9198.

Grant empowers Employment Readiness program

CaptureRoom at the Inn is pleased to announce it has been chosen to receive a grant from St. Louis-Based Jewish Fund for Human Needs.

The award will benefit the shelter’s Employment Readiness Program, which seeks to empower our homeless clients with the tools, skills, confidence and knowledge needed to regain employment – a key step in their path out of homelessness.

“We are extremely grateful to the Jewish Fund for Human Needs for believing in our clients and their future,” said Room at the Inn Program Director Val Ferlis. “Through our Employment Readiness Program, our clients regain not only a path out of homeless and a sustainable income, but also a sense of confidence and self-worth.”

Room at the Inn provides emergency shelter and a stabilizing support system to women and families in need in St. Louis County, using a collaborative, interfaith effort of congregations and organizations throughout the St. Louis Region. Our program is bolstered by approximately 60 congregations of different faith traditions.

“The Jewish Fund for Human Needs (JFHN) works to fulfill the mitzvah of tzedakah (the obligation to do righteous acts) by awarding small grants to non-Jewish social services agencies helping those in need throughout the St. Louis region,” according to its website.

Room at the Inn was one of nine organizations selected by JFHN for the Spring 2015 cycle.

YOU can help our charity golf tournament

IMG_6952“FORE” It’s not a golf ball that’s coming at you really fast, it’s the Second Annual Charity Golf Outing Benefitting Room at the Inn!

Again this year, Room at Inn and the clients it serves will be the beneficiaries of a generous collaboration between Webster Groves Christian Church and Westborough Country Club. Together, they are presenting a charity golf outing for Room at the Inn to be held at Westborough Country Club on Monday, October 5, 2015.

The kickoff meeting for coordinating the event will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 9 in the Clubroom of Westborough. Light snacks will be provided.

We are seeking volunteers for a variety of opportunities that will help to make this year’s event even more successful than last year. Whether you have worked a golf tournament or not, if you like meeting new people and want to get involved with a great effort, and have fun doing so, this is for you.

Details of the event and the volunteers we need will be explained at the meeting, which should not last much more than an hour. Subsequent meetings will be held at the same time, either at the Room at the Inn site in Bridgeton or at Westborough Country Club.

Please RSVP by June 30 to Ana Schulz, by email: aschulz@lpp-room.org or by phone at 314-209-9181, extension 105.

We look forward to hearing from you and meeting up with you on July 9.
